Seven Wonderful Years!

On August 24th, Danny and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary.  Seven wonderful years!  In our family, we also celebrate the day as our Family Birthday.  So we took the kids out to breakfast to celebrate!  They picked IHOP, and we all enjoyed a bounteous breakfast.

Then we took Claire, Sophie, and Johnny to Grandma Candy's house for a sleepover!  Danny and I were gifting ourselves an overnight stay in Downtown Salt Lake, so we farmed the kids out.  Luke was still a bit of a handful, so we split him off from the older three and took him to stay with Grandma and Papa Call.  Once we had the kids to their respective locations, Danny and I ran home to quickly pack an overnight bag before heading to Salt Lake.

We checked into our room at about 3:00 pm.  We were staying in the Downtown Marriott, and we had an incredible room!  It was a little early to head out for dinner, but it gave us the perfect amount of time for an awesome afternoon nap.  Neither of us could remember the last time we were able to take a nap together without a single child to worry about.  It was glorious!  We woke up a couple of hours later and hit the streets looking for a place to eat.  We decided to just start walking down Main Street and see what struck our fancy.

We found Michelangelo's, and if definitely struck our fancy!  The food was incredible.  I ordered a yummy tortellini dish, and Danny ordered a sausage pizza.  We ate a little of the pizza, but opted to save that for a late night snack.  We shared my tortellini dish, and enjoyed it immensely!  The restaurant wasn't very crowded yet, and we had a cute little table by the window.  We were able to observe all the crazies walking around Salt Lake.  Quite enjoyable. :)  When we had finished our dinner, we ran our left over pizza back to our room and headed out for the night's main attraction.  The Salt Lake Cougar Club Big Blue Bash!!

That's right.  I'm officially the world's most amazing wife. :)  Danny really wanted to go to this event, since Coach Bronco Mendenhall and a few players would be there.  I really had no objection, so we decided to see just how fun this Big Blue Bash would be.  It was pretty fun!  We got right in the spirit of things, and Danny enjoyed being around so many of his kind. :)

When we saw Cosmo coming down our aisle, we knew we had to get a picture for the kids.  They thought it was so cool that Daddy was with the real Cosmo!  It's for the kids, after all... ;)

Coach Bronco Mendenhall and a few players spoke, making their promise to do their best for an amazing season, and generally getting us all pumped up for BYU Football.  As Bronco was leaving, Danny decided on a whim that he needed to give him a "Luke Bracelet".  The only one he had was the one he's been wearing since we first got them, but he was willing to part with it for Bronco.  He caught him right as he was getting out the door, and told Bronco about Luke and gave him the bracelet.  Bronco put it right on, and then gave me his email address so we could get into touch with him and see what his foundation, "Thursday's Heroes", could do for Luke and our family.  We asked for a quick picture, and he was happy to oblige.  But he blinked!!  That's okay...even a Blinking Bronco picture is cool! :)

Danny and I have said often in the last year or so that when we got engaged after a whopping six days of dating, we could have been making the biggest mistake of our lives!  Luckily, we were both living our lives in such a way that we were worthy of the companionship of the Holy Ghost, so we like to think our certainty was really personal revelation at its finest. :)  This last year of our marriage has been by far the most challenging.  We spent so much time apart from one another during Luke's hospitalizations, which was new for us.  We were tired, stressed, worried, and scared.  At times that brought us closer than we've ever been before, but I'm not too proud to say that there were times...many more times than is usual for us...that it left us irritated and bickering.  And sometimes all-out fighting.  But what we learned through all of that is that we love each other too much to be defeated.  We realized that our marriage was the most important thing.  And that together, we could weather whatever storms were ahead of us.  I have been blessed in my life, more than I have ever deserved.  God has been so good to me.  But never more so than when he brought Danny into my life.  And even with the occasional argument, we know that we have been blessed with a very easy marriage.  We are very best friends, and we love to spend our time together.  We love to dream of our future together, and we love to discuss the gospel together.  I love watching Danny grow and become more amazing every day.  But really, he's so handsome I'd watch him do just about anything! :)

Danny, I love you more than all my words could possibly express.  Even the big ones. :)  Here's to another year of who-knows-what, and an eternity of growth and joy.  Happy Anniversary, Sweetheart!

GO COUGARS! :)
