Moments To Remember

I think I've said it a few times now, but October was a pretty busy month for us!  We made so many great memories, and had a lot of fun activities.  But even better than all of that  were the daily moments.  The little things that I want to remember.

October was still pretty much all about Luke. :)  But for the first time in almost a year, it was about Luke in a different way.  We were getting far enough away from when our doctors told us he'd be gone that we were starting to forget.  We were starting to enjoy Luke for the little boy he is.  We stopped looking at him with an ache in our hearts for how much we'd miss him, and instead just let ourselves smile at his antics.  We started to live something like a normal life.  And it was fantastic!

Luke started to get pretty mobile with the help of his walker.  And it didn't take long before he discovered that he could get into the drawers.  When I walked in to see him going through the coloring drawer and pulling everything out, I thought my heart would burst!  This is exactly the kind of thing an 18 month old little boy should be doing!  It was a very triumphant moment for us both. :)

Claire was in the groove of first grade, and Sophie and Johnny were back in the swing of things in preschool.  The mornings belonged to just Lukey and I, and since he was feeling so much better it meant we weren't stuck on the couch together.  We started going on walks in the morning, and we both enjoyed the fresh air.  It felt SO GOOD to be out and about with my baby boy!

Although with the rate things were going, he wasn't going to be my baby for long.  Luke was getting more and more independent, and more and more confident in his physical abilities.  And that was something we were all very happy about!

We had a visit from Andi and Liam during October, and Luke loved being able to play with Liam.  Previous visits have been rare, and Luke was never really in the mood to play.  It was so fun to see him becoming more social.

And it was so fun to watch the relationship between Luke and his brother and sisters grow.  On Fridays, Sophie and Johnny would join us on our walks.  These kids are too cute.  Seriously, I can't believe they're mine!

Really.  I mean, look at this kid! :)

Johnny really loves Luke.  And Luke really loves Johnny, even if he can only scream at him in frustration all the time. :)  One morning, Danny woke up wedged between the boys in bed.  As soon as he was able to extricate himself, Luke rolled over until he was pressed up to Johnny, and the boys slept that way til morning.

It wasn't too many days later before I came out of the bathroom after having gotten up for the day to find that Sophie had come into our bed, cuddled up to Lukey, found a hand to hold, and fell back to sleep.  Luke has become the epicenter of everything that happens in this family.  He is the focus of all our goodness and all our service...and all our love.  He is such a gift to all of us.

And I think that goes for Luke's grandparents, too. :)  Grandma Call stood all day at a community garage sale and sold Luke Bracelets, all the while telling everyone who would listen all about Luke's journey.

So there you have it!  October was a very busy, but very happy, month for our family.  We were starting to look forward to the holiday season with anticipation, and without reservation.  It was a wonderful feeling!
