Shrek Party

Theater has kind of become a thing in our family.  With Danny's sisters doing so much with the theater group at their high school, and especially with Claire having been in a play herself, we're really cementing in a love for the performing arts in our children.  Grandma Candy knows this.  So when some of the youth in her ward approached her about tickets to the "Shrek in the Swamp" party at Layton High, she asked if we'd like to join her.  Layton High was going to be doing a production of "Shrek The Musical" in the spring, and the party was to help raise funds and enthusiasm.  We were definitely game for that!

The party was kind of a carnival.  You purchased tickets for entry, which covered the cost of your meal, which was Chicken and Waffles in honor of Donkey. :)  The kids were encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes, which made our kids all the more excited!  Once you were in the door, you could purchase tickets for the various carnival games and activities.  We purchased some, and Grandma Candy purchased A BUNCH!  So the kids had free reign of the carnival. :)  We started off with face painting...always a hit with our kids!

And we got to hear a fun princess story from Snow White and Ariel!

Then we got in line for dinner.  Unfortunately, the school's power grid couldn't handle the many waffle irons they were using, so they kept tripping the breaker.  That meant we spent a while in line, waiting for waffles.  Grandma enjoyed sometime playing with Lukey, and the parents did our best to keep the older kids in line...literally!

Dinner was actually pretty good!  These kids thought they were big enough to sit at their own table.  Who do they think they are?  They did pretty awesome on their own, though.  And it was so much fun to watch them interact when they didn't think we were watching. :)

That left the adults and babies at our own table.  :)

After dinner, we still had plenty of carnival to enjoy!  The kids ran around playing various games while Luke enjoyed eating an entire bag of popcorn.  I swear, I will never tire of watching that boy eat. :)

All of the kids walked, and won, the Cupcake Walk...

...and Dad even let them get temporary tattoos!

It was such a fun night!  We're so glad Grandma Candy told us about it, and came to have fun with us, too.  We're excited to see the show in the spring!
