September 22nd marked a milestone in Danny's life. He shed his 20's like an dirty shirt and started a whole new decade in his life. Danny celebrated his 30th birthday!
Since Danny is getting older, we decided to start the day out with a health-conscious breakfast. NOT!! :) Double Chocolate Waffles with Berry Sauce and Sweetened Whipped Cream were on the menu. Johnny was all too eager to help Daddy with his breakfast.
I think they did a pretty good job.
Everyone enjoyed breakfast together. We love having breakfast with Daddy on a Saturday morning. It's even cooler in our new house, at our new table, looking at our awesome new yard. Life is good.
After breakfast was done, and the kitchen cleaned, everyone got ready for the day. The kids and I were heading to Grandma Candy's for Aunt Jessie's baby shower. Danny and I had spent the night before baking delicious Mint Brownies and Lemon Bars. They turned out absolutely perfect! Danny cut the brownies and bars into delicate little squares of deliciousness while I got showered and got the kids ready. Seriously, I have the coolest husband ever! Then we left Danny to do what he wanted to do while we spent a few hours at the shower. The kids and I had a great time at Jessie's shower, but things didn't go exactly as planned for Danny...
He had planned to do a little manly house shopping at Sears that afternoon. We needed some new garage door openers and things like that. But the car started acting funny when he got there, and before he knew it he was coasting into the parking lot with a dead car. On his birthday!! In all fairness to the car, it's held up incredibly well. We've known it was going to go eventually. Danny called his Dad, and together they towed the car to the dealership/shop of a family friend. Turns out, the alternator cable snapped (or something like that), and $170.00 later the car was ready to drive again. Not the best thing to happen on his birthday, but I suppose it wasn't the worst thing either.
Danny didn't end up getting the shopping done that he wanted to, and he didn't get a nap. He was kind of bummed when we got home. But it didn't take long for him to cheer up! We had a dinner date to Tucanos, Danny's favorite Brazilian restaurant. Grandma Call came over to babysit the kids for us, and we headed out for some time together, just the two of us. The Gateway was a little busy that night, so we ended up with about 45 minutes to kill. We walked around the mall for a while, and ended up in a store called "UR Rivals". It's a store dedicated to the BYU/U of U rivalry. Half the store is BYU paraphernalia, and the other half is U of U. Let's just say it was like separating the wheat from the chaff. :) Danny found an awesome storybook about the historic BYU win during the 2006 season, so we got it for his birthday present from the kids. He's already read it to the girls at bedtime, and I'm sure it will continue to have a secure place in the bedtime routine for years to come. We then enjoyed an incredible meal, complete with "Guarana" to drink. Well, Danny drank it. I still don't like the stuff.
We continued our celebration on Sunday with dinner at Grandma and Papa's house. September is a busy month for birthdays in the Call Family, so we celebrate Uncle David, Aunt Julie, and Danny all at once. We enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner followed by a Texas Sheet Cake that Danny and I made. De-lish!!
We love Danny so much, and we love celebrating his birthday with him. He's an amazing husband and a terrific father. And I'm pretty sure this next decade will only bring more joy and happiness for us all. We love you, Danny! Happy Birthday!
