Basement Renovation

So way back in April, just a day or so after bringing Joey home from the hospital, we discovered our basement had flooded. When the secondary water was turned on, it broke two of our sprinkler valves. The flowing water ended up filling two of the window wells and subsequently poured into the basement. It had probably been doing that for days before we discovered it, with us being at the hospital and all. It was 10:00 pm when I heard dripping coming from downstairs, and when Danny went to investigate he stepped into completely soaked carpet. He made a call to the High Priest group leader, and within minutes we had ten or so men from the ward cleaning out our basement. Danny's parents and brother came to help, bringing the trailer and some needed help for me and Joey (considering I could barely move still and couldn't lift him on my own). It was quite the scene at our house, but we got everything cleaned up and the carpet ripped out by 11:30 pm. Luckily for us, our insurance covered everything. We just had to fix it!

Fast forward eight or so months. All of that time, we've had concrete floors and exposed tack boards, ripped out dry wall and mess everywhere. We just couldn't find the time to get it done! But as the holidays approached, Danny and I made the decision that we wanted to be able to have Christmas morning downstairs...which meant finishing the basement. So we committed that we would spend Black Friday painting the basement. Beforehand, we cleaned up the mess, hired out the drywall, bought carpet, bought baseboards, and picked out paint.

We got up bright and early on Friday and got to work! Danny and I decided to be a little whid and crazy and go with a blue color downstairs. We wanted something darker, but not so much so that it would be a cave. At first, I couldn't get over just how BLUE it was! But as we kept going, I loved it more and more. We painted all day...working together as a family to get the room done. The kids were awesome! Then on Saturday, Danny touched up and I painted base boards. By the end of the weekend, all the painted had been done!

Now it was a matter of getting the baseboards up before the carpet was installed on December 14th! To be continued...
