Hash House A Go-Going to Carlsbad

We had two reason for driving to Vegas on Christmas Day. First was to get us half way there, and thereby giving us more time at the resort by allowing us to check in earlier on Tuesday. Secondly, and more importantly, it gave us the chance to hit Hash House A Go-Go with the kids! Danny and I ate there during our anniversary/Tough Mudder trip in October, and we were definitely anxious to eat there again! And oh my, it lived up to our day dreams! We ordered their banana brown sugar pancake (which was bigger than two of the kids' heads combined!) and a chicken and asparagus hash. Both were beyond delicious. So we decided we should probably get a stuffed burger too...best. burger. Ever!! Seriously, we ate every stitch of the food we ordered and even though none of us could eat another bite we definitely wanted to!

But as much as we were tempted to stay long enough to digest and eat the next meal of the day there, we had a beautiful resort with a ocean view waiting for us and quite a bit of highway in between so we reluctantly paid the bill and left. However, as we were getting Joey out of his high chair we discovered that he had blown out his diaper in the worst possible way...poor guy's stomach was rebelling in the opposite direction now. So we spent 20 minutes in the parking lot getting Joey cleaned up, and then getting Danny a new set of clothes when he ended up covered in poop in the process. We were definitely going to have to do some laundry as soon as we got to the resort! Poor Joey...he was definitely not feeling very well.

When we plugged in the address to the resort into Waze we were pleased to see that it was only going to take us a bit over 4 hours to get to the resort! And then we hit traffic coming out of Vegas...and it ended up taking us more than six. But it is always worth it once we get there (even if you're disappointed to discover you have a first floor room this time and therefore don't have your normal awesome ocean view.) :) But if I stood on the chairs on the patio I could see that beautiful view I love so much, so it was all good. :)

We did our normal grocery shopping and unpacking the first night we got there. Everyone woke up rested and ready for vacation on Wednesday morning, and the only thing we had scheduled was a tour at a neighboring resort at 9:30 am. And by "tour" we mean the sales pitch for a time share. But it was worth doing for the $125 gift of zoo tickets that they were giving us! Plus, the kids were able to play at the Kids Club, so it was hard to pass up. The resort was gorgeous, and honestly we were surprised by how affordable it all was. But we stuck to our guns and told them we were not buying a time share that day. :) The kids had fun, though Joey had another diaper issue so he spent the last half of the tour/sales pitch with us. Poor little guy still wasn't feeling very well.

Once we got back to our room I decided to stay with Joey so he could take a nap while Danny took the older kids swimming. I didn't think Joey would sleep for very long, so the plan was to meet them at the pool when he woke up. Well, he ended up sleeping for at least a couple of hours...and so did I! I didn't realize how tired I was, or how tired Joey was. But I think it made all the difference that we slept. Danny and the kids had a blast swimming outside in December!! Then we enjoyed a night at the resort playing with Christmas presents and just enjoying having nothing to do. And sometime before bedtime, Joey decided he was feeling much better!

Good thing, too...cause we were headed to the San Diego Zoo the next morning!!
