Home And High Water

At last, the time came to make the trek back to Utah for our summer vacation.  The girls have been waiting since Christmas to go back to Utah!  We split the drive into two days, and spent the night in a hotel in Cedar City on Friday night.  We love that part!  The kids enjoyed swimming and watching cartoons, but were still anxious to get to Grandma and Papa's.  We made it back home on Saturday, which was also Claire's birthday, around noon.  The kids were so excited to be back!  And, of course, everyone at Grandma and Papa's were excited to see us!  Especially Aunt Julie and Aunt Katie.  They promptly took Claire and Sophie out to lunch and the Dollar Store for Claire's birthday.  What good Aunts!  The girl's loved their one-on-one time, and it gave Danny and I the chance to run and finish some of Claire's birthday shopping.

We went to church with my Mom on Sunday, and the kids LOVED being with their cousins.  Claire was so excited to go to Isabelle's Primary class with her, and Sophie even went to Nursery by herself.  What big girls we have. :)  We spent the rest of the day at Grandma Candy's.  Johnny was so excited to have a boy cousin to play with!

I think Johnny is old enough now to really enjoy being at Grandma's.  He was having the time of his life!  But he didn't forget his manners.  He helped Grandma Candy do the dishes before he went off to play.  What a good boy!

Eli needed a breather from being bombarded by an excited little cousin, so Johnny decided to play with Aunt Rachel's cat for a while.  I can't remember who won the stare-down...

As has become the norm, as soon as we walked in the door, Claire and Sophie disappeared.  They can't get enough of playing with Isabelle!  It's so fun to see these girls grow up together and be such good friends.

Like I said, Johnny couldn't get enough of Eli!  I think that Eli might enjoy it a bit more when Johnny is walking and can actually play a bit.  A maybe when he's a bit less kissy...

Seriously, Eli is Johnny's BFF!  I think Eli could take it or leave it. :)

After dinner, we had a belated birthday cake for Claire.  We were waiting to do the official birthday stuff until her party on Monday, but come on.  We're at Grandma Candy's!  Chocolate Cake was on the menu, birthday or not.  Claire and Isabelle took care of decorating the cake.

And then Claire let everyone help her blow out her birthday candles.  I think she needed everyone's help!  Claire and Isabelle may have gotten a little carried away with the candles. :)

We had a blast at Grandma Candy's!  As usual, we headed home to Grandma and Papa Call's house a little later than we had wanted to, and then stayed up way too late talking.  We kept saying we should go to bed, but kept talking.  The next morning was Memorial Day, so we could sleep in, right?  Wrong.  We should have gone to bed...

Another memorable Memorial Day began at 5:45 am when I went to put Johnny back in his pack-and-play after I fed him in our bed.  As I leaned down to put him in, my foot sank into some rather wet carpet.  Weird. I put John down and walked toward the door, and the carpet got increasingly wetter.  As I walked into the hall to go tell Danny (who was laying down in another room with the girls), I realized I was walking through about an inch or so of water.  I decided Danny could be the bearer of bad news, so I woke him up and sent him upstairs to tell Papa that the basement was flooded.  We checked to make sure there weren't any valuables on the floor that could get damaged, and then we decided to go back to bed for a bit.  That was a mistake.  By the time we got up a half hour or so later, the water level had risen by about 2 inches.  At this point, everyone was awake and even David and Kenny were at the house.  Everyone was scrambling to get everything off the floor, furniture at all.  I took our kids up to my Mom's to play while we helped get things under control.  But not before we had some fun...

It's hard to tell in the picture, but the water at this point was up to the girl's ankles.  They thought it was so cool!

Claire went to go rescue the rubber duckie and slipped.  At first, she was going to cry.  And then the situation kind of sunk in and she just started laughing.  It was great!

Well, you can probably guess how we spent the rest of the day!  It was pretty stressful.  But we got everything cleaned up, and Danny and I were still able to get Claire's birthday party under way...
