Goodbye To Gracie Rainbow Dance

I'm not ashamed to admit it.  I do not like cats.  I never intended to own a cat.  But back in Lancaster we were experiencing a bit of a mouse problem, so we found ourselves a kitten and named her Gracie Rainbow Dance.  She was a cute kitty, and grew up to be a beautiful cat.  She was an extremely affectionate and loving cat, which I understand is a very desirable trait...if you're a cat person. :)  Gracie was always very patient with the kids' rough love.  I really had no problem with her.

Ok...maybe one small problem.  She was, unfortunately, a cat. :)  And as the time drew closer to bringing Luke home, we had a difficult decision to make.  Because Gracie was an indoor/outdoor cat, she was liable to track some nasty contagions into the house.  And then there's the whole issue of her litter...my least favorite part of having a cat.  Even though I really didn't want to take care of a cat anymore, if it hadn't been for Luke's condition, we would have kept her forever.  To be fair, if I were to ever like or love a cat, Gracie would have been it.  But, it wasn't worth the possibility of Luke getting sick once he came home.  We decided to find a new home for Gracie.  Because if we couldn't keep her in ours, we had to know she would go where she was loved.

When we were living with Danny's parents, the kids next door became particularly attached to Gracie.  There are seven kids in the family, including a set of triplets that are just a year older than Claire.  One of the girls, Sarah, really loves animals.  Her mother isn't so much an animal person, though.  However, their whole family became so attached to Gracie that she acquiesced and got Sarah a kitten.  As luck would have it, the kitten got very sick just days after coming home to Sarah, and they ended up having to put the poor thing down.  It was very hard on Sarah!  So, when we needed to find Gracie a loving home, we automatically thought of Sarah and her family.  We asked her Mom, and she thought it would be a great idea.

The morning we took Gracie over just happened to be Sarah's birthday, and her Mom hadn't told her about Gracie yet.  Sarah was delighted to learn that Gracie was hers to keep!  I had to get to the hospital, so the kids stayed there to help Gracie get acclimated.  We know Gracie will love it there, and get all the love she could handle.  And the best part of all is since she is right next to Grandma and Papa Call's house, we can still see her all the time!  It was the perfect solution.

Thanks for being the one and only cat, Gracie Rainbow Dance!  We love you...even if you are a cat. :)
