Change In Plans

After the Roger Call Reunion, we hurried home and packed up. We were all set to leave the next morning for 10 days in Island Park! We had been planning this vacation for months, and we were terribly excited about it. Danny had bought books for our hikes in Yellowstone, we all had our CamelBaks ready...we were set! We managed, even in our exhausted state, to get everything packed and ready and loaded in the car by about 10:00 am. It was a small miracle!

Then we hit a snag. I'm still too upset to go into details, and it's probably not charitable to do so anyway. Suffice it to say that our plans to stay with Grandma Lovell at her cabin were no longer going to work, and we didn't know what we were going to do. All we knew was that we were too angry to figure it out and we really had no place to stay. What's worse is that we had invited Danny's cousin Christina and her family to join us at the cabin for a few days, and we had some pretty fun stuff planned! So not only was our vacation ruined, but we had to call them and ruin their vacation, too! Worse. Day. Ever. So, within a couple of hours of having the whole car packed and the kids ready to buckle up, we unpacked the entire car and all five of us sat around disappointed.

Luckily, I'm married to the type of man that finds solutions. :) He realized that the silver-lining was that it was opening night of the movie "Minions" which we had been waiting and waiting to see. We had always wanted to go on opening night, but our vacation plans had kind of gotten in the way. Well, we were free now! :) Dad got us tickets for that evening and then told everyone to get their swimming suits on. We were going to go to Surf n Swim to enjoy an afternoon in the sun while we waited on our movie time. Best. Dad. Ever! We also got a call from Christina, who is also a solutions-person (must be a Call thing!) She refused to let the weekend go, so she made arrangements for our families to go camping at Sourdough the next day...which was something else we had been talking about doing forever. One way or another, we were going to salvage our vacation! :) Surf n Swim was awesome fun, as always. We were all starting to feel better.

On our way to dinner and our movie, we stopped to get me a Minion shirt and to get our very own Selfie Stick! We wanted a way to take a picture of all of us together at Luke's Place before the movie. This was all in honor of him, after all. We gave it a try in the car, and while it doesn't provide the highest quality picture all the time, it sure it convenient!

I found it surprisingly emotional going to the cemetery, all of us in our Minion shirts and ready to see the movie. Luke would have LOVED doing this! I missed my little minion so much. We spent some time playing with the selfie stick and talking about Luke before we made our way to the movie.

The movie was really cute, and the kids loved it. It was fun to do something just for Luke again! We got home late and went straight to bed. We had to pack (again!) for camping the next day! :)
