After two amazing days at Disneyland and one incredible day at SeaWorld...we decided to take it slow. So we went to LegoLand! :) LegoLand is located right next door to the resort we were staying at, and the kind people there hooked us up with tickets. Looking back, I can't believe we had the energy to do anything at all! But apparently we had enough for another day of fun. :)
We started out with the Coast Cruise, which is a nice leisurely ride around the park with a view of some of the incredible statues built entirely of legos! We've been to LegoLand one other time, and we started at the same place. Seems like a nice introduction to the park.
With the cruise behind us, the whole park was open to explore. There were a lot of fun photo areas set up for Halloween...so obviously we took advantage of that. :)
We eventually found ourselves in another section of the park with...you guessed it...more lego creations! The girls were very excited to get their picture with Queen Elizabeth. ;)
Next we came upon Danny's most favorite part of LegoLand. My poor husband never has anyone to enjoy these crazy rides with, but I'm glad he'll just go on his own! He always sets the controls on this one to the most extreme option and I know he's pretending he's a fighter jet pilot. :)
Honestly, the rides at LegoLand aren't really that great, so most of what we do is explore and play with legos...and keep our eyes out for good photo ops. The kids are actually getting rather opinionated on what they want their pictures with. Hence the burro. :)
In the medieval section, Claire remembered a ride from the first time she had come, and that made the kids excited to try it out. It's such a lame ride! But for whatever reason, the kids love it. And that's enough for us.
At this point, everyone was needing a break from walking and wanted a snack. It was still pretty warm in So Cal, so we decided on ice cream. And I was reminded that Johnny can lose all sense of civility when he gets an ice cream cone. Good thing he looks cute with an ice cream cone 'stashe and beard!
After the kids graduated from the Jedi Training Academy, anything and everything Star Wars was awesome! So when we came across Star Wars Miniland...the kids were all over that! Sophie and Claire wanted their picture with Darth Mal, since that's who they fought to earn their Jedi rank, and Johnny wanted his picture with Darth Vader...the foe he vanquished to become a Jedi. And of course we were all a fan of Luke Skywalker...mostly because of our Luke. Danny just had to put his hand over Luke's face just for memory's sake. Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time...
The rest of Star Wars Miniland was just as cool, though a little less emotionally poignant. :) This area was definitely a favorite of the day.
As we were walking through the park, trying to decide what we'd do next, the kids noticed this carnival game with all sorts of Minions for prizes. Of course, they all wanted one in honor of Luke, so Danny tried his hand at the game. Twice. But no luck. I'm sure they're rigged... :)
Our next ride was another water ride...though instead of being on a cruise we had to steer our own boats. Johnny and I rode together, Danny and Sophie manned a boat, and Claire got her own! She was pretty stoked!
Right up until she got completely turned around and starting blocking up the whole ride! I was mortified, but Claire (true to her nature) just took it in stride! I love that girl, and I can learn so much from her. Danny was an excellent father while teaching Claire how to drive her boat. When I wasn't totally embarrassed, I was laughing myself silly! We were quite the sight!
But even with a mishap here and there, we all made it to the end of the ride in one piece, and Claire was quite proud of herself!
We did a few more things, like walking through the "set" for the Lego Movie, and doing the Indiana Jones adventure. When Claire and Johnny saw the Chima figure, they wanted a picture...they had been watching that on Netflix and thought it was so cool that they'd seen him. :)
Our last ride of the day was the driving school, so each kid could earn their LegoLand driving license. Johnny wasn't old enough to go on the same track as the older girls, and he was a little disappointed. He was so much bigger than the other kids in their cars, and his skill was definitely beyond that of the kiddy track. But he took his driving very seriously and enjoyed it nonetheless.
And Claire and Sophie? Well, I'm nervous for when we're looking at driving for real! Again, they were so patient when they got turned around or bumped into people...or street signs. :) It was a blast to watch, that's for sure! And in the end, each kid got their driver's license, so everyone was happy. :)
And with that, we all decided we'd had enough walking around over the last few days and we were ready to go chill at the resort for a while. LegoLand was good to us, and a great way to spend our morning!
Until next time, LegoLand!
