I've decided that at our house, we celebrate birthdays for at least three days. Danny and I aren't sure exactly when that started being the case, but we can't seem to avoid it anymore! It was the same for Johnny's birthday weekend. His actual birthday was on Friday, but we also had a ward party that night so we couldn't celebrate properly. But I had to make sure Johnny had candles on his birthday, so I made him a donut cake we could enjoy before the party started. And he got his present from Mom and Dad.
Johnny absolutely LOVED the circuit board we got him, and wanted to try it out immediately. Danny was only too happy to oblige the birthday boy. ;) They were able to build a circuit board that would light a light bulb, and Johnny was so stoked.
On Saturday Johnny got to attend the season opening home football game, which I'll cover in another post. Suffice it to say the birthday treatment continued through Saturday and all the way to Sunday. Johnny got to choose his birthday dinner (lasagna), and then we had the family over for cake and presents. We had a wonderful time visiting together, and Johnny got some pretty awesome presents this year! I love seeing all the family get together to celebrate my kids.
Johnny chose a traditional, yet decadent, chocolate cake this year, and it was delicious! To make it extra exciting, we used sparkler candles. I'm not sure if they were meant to also be trick candles, but Johnny had a heck of a time getting them to stay blown out!
Happy Birthday, John Boy!! Next year is the big baptism year!!
